Fellow Programme in Management, 2016

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a doctoral level programme of RGIIM Shillong. The Institute aims to develop a cadre of management thought leaders who are willing to commit themselves to strive for managerial excellence and such values for a Sustainable world. The programme is a well-crafted rigorous process of inter-disciplinary training in all functions of management and intends to host candidates who want to further their quest for knowledge and produce globally recognized research outcomes.

About FPM Programme

Vision of Fellowship Programme in Management (FPM) of IIM, Shillong

FPM programme of IIM Shillong aims at creating dedicated researchers and scholars who would explore the critical issues in management, identify opportunities for new frameworks and form new insights. The programme offers opportunities for carrying out advanced interdisciplinary research in all fields of management education and practice.

Programme Outline

The participant is expected to spend four for the FPM programme that includes two years of rigorous course work. The coursework aims at providing an understanding of management discipline, building theoretical foundations in the core area, develop basic skills for analyzing managerial problems and instill research interest. The coursework is expected to enable the participant to provide the platform for future research activities. The participant is evaluated through a Comprehensive Examination after the successful completion of course work and the doctoral dissertation period begins after successfully clearing the comprehensive examination. From third year onwards, the doctoral dissertation work provides them with an opportunity to make original contribution to an area of management or to one of its disciplines.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to apply for IIM Shillong Fellow Programme in Management:

  • A Masters Degree in any discipline, with at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PWD), with a Bachelors degree/ equivalent qualification with at-least least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PWD) after a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.


  • Five year/four year Integrated Masters Degree programme in any discipline, with at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PWD) obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent


  • A professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55 percent marks.


  • A 4-year/8-semester Bachelors degree with at least 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST/PWD) or equivalent grade point average.

    The candidate must hold a Bachelors/Masters degree of any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. Those in their final year of Masters or Bachelors degree (B.E / B. Tech) in any discipline can also apply. Such candidates have to complete the requirements for the course before 30 June 2016 and produce the original certificates/mark sheets by 31 December 2016.

  • Application Form and Brochure will be available online. Candidates can fill-up the application form online and an application fee of Rs.1000/- can be paid through Demand Draft drawn in favour of RGIIM Shillong payable in Shillong or alternatively transfer the application fees online to the SBI Account No.31136230995, IFSC CODE: SBIN0002081, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. (application fee for SC/ST/PWD is not applicable)

    Validity of Score other than CAT:

    Two years from the date of test and should be valid on the deadline of submission of application form.
    (Candidates residing outside India could choose to take any of the above tests depending on the area to which they are applying) or write GMAT. CAT is administered only in India. The doctoral programme accepts test scores that have been taken in the last two years.
    CAT is the common admission test required for admission to the Post-Graduate Programmes of the Indian Institutes of Management. Application for admission to FPM must be filled-up online.

    Age Limit & Relaxation:

    Maximum 28 years as on 01/07/2016 (upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Differently Abled and Female Applicants)

    Selection Process:

    Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria stated above and who cleared the Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the IIMs in either 2014 or 2015.
    Alternatively, those who have valid GATE, GRE, GMAT and JRF (UGC/CSIR) examinations till 05th March 2016 can also apply in the relevant area of specialization.
    Candidates who have already obtained a two-year PGDM from any of the IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent are exempted from this requirement, and can apply directly through the prescribed Application Form. Such applicants are also eligible to get a waiver of the first year course work and can directly join the second year of the programme.
    Short-listed candidates on the basis of their academic record and performance in the qualifying examinations mentioned above will be called to Shillong for a personal interview for final selection in April 2016 and the successful candidates will receive offers by June 2016.
    Admission to the programme is open to overseas candidates including NRIs and foreign nationals. Their admission will be based on GMAT/GRE scores which are valid till 19th March 2016.


    Reservation for eligible categories will be as per Government of India rules applicable for doctoral programme at the time of admission.

    Duration of the Programme and Accommodation:

    Students are expected to complete the programme in four years. However, under special circumstances extension of one more year may be granted only after permission from the competent authority. No financial support will however be provided for the fifth year.
    Hostel facility is available for all the FPM students, however, family accommodation is not available

    Financial Support

    Candidates selected for the Fellowship Programme are given a financial support which covers their research requirements and modest living.

  • • All students admitted to the programme are given fellowship and contingency allowance up to four years. Students are provided with a fellowship amount of Rupees 20,000 per month during 1st year; Rupees 25,000 per month for 2nd & 3rd Year and Rupees. 30,000 per month in the 4th year, subject to the clearance of Comprehensive Examination and submission of thesis proposal.
  • Those who are exempted from first year course work and are admitted directly in the second year of the programme would be eligible to get fellowship amount only for three years.
  • A comprehensive package of contingency grants is provided to all FPM students. The package has the following components:
  • Support for Fieldwork and Data Collection
  • Computer Grant
  • National/International Conference Grant
  • Preparation of thesis

    The students has to pay the following expenses:

    1. Caution Deposit (refundable): Rs.10,000/-*
    2. Mess Charges: As per actuals.

    * This is a onetime fees payable during the time of Registration.

    How to Apply:

    Candidates, who use their scores of other examinations such as GATE, GRE, GMAT, and JRF of UGC/CSIR are required to download the IIM Shillong FPM Application Form by clicking on the link provided below.

    A candidate is eligible to submit applications to a maximum of two areas. The process of filing application is to be done in two parts:

    1. Both the Application forms -I & II in .pdf and .doc format respectively (available for download from the link below) should be filled up, saved and then submitted as attachments to fpm@iimshillong.in (Click Here to download Adobe Reader). No photograph needs to be attached on the online submitted form.
      The candidates are requested to be careful while filling in the form and to check the same before submitting it. In case any candidate submits the form more than once, the first such submission will only be considered.

    2. The candidates should take a print out of both forms (.pdf and .doc format) before submitting the same. If the candidate is applying for two areas, two copies must be printed. The printed copy (ies) of the application form, one for each area, with a recent photograph pasted and with all supporting documents (including self-attested copies of mark sheet and certificates of all public examinations starting from 10th, experience certificate, relevant score card, age proof, etc.) attached separately with each form which may be sent together in one envelop. Completed application forms along with a Demand Draft of Rs.1000/- (application fee is not applicable to SC/ST/PWD candidates) drawn in favor of RGIIM, Shillong payable at Shillong should be sent to the following address.

    The online copy as well as the printed copy of the application form along with the necessary documents must reach on or before the last date, 19th March, 2016. The institute will not be responsible for any problem with the email not reaching the aforesaid email id, and postal delays.

    Candidates who have applied in the last two years, but did not get admission offer letter need not apply again.
